Beach Lighthouse Painting in Rehoboth, DE

Cover

As many visitors enter the gorgeous ocean-side town of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, one of the first things they see is the lighthouse at the traffic circle greeting them. Lamb’s Custom Painting was called upon to restore this historic treasure to its original beauty so it can greet our town’s locals and visitors proudly.

The lighthouse, in the circle of Rehoboth Beach’s main entrance to the city, has been in the traffic circle since 2004. It is a replica of the Cape Henlopen Lighthouse that stood on the Great Dune on the Atlantic coast in Lewes Beach, Delaware from 1765 through 1926. In 1924, a local realtor built a replica of it at his Rehoboth Beach office. The lighthouse replica stood on the first block of Rehoboth Avenue for a couple of years until it was bought and moved to the entrance of the city. It was moved in 2004 to where it presently stands to welcome locals and visitors, alike, as they go around the traffic circle to visit one of the nation’s best vacation spots.

The lighthouse is bombarded with winds containing salt water daily. Dirt and grime tend to adhere to the surface easily. Lamb’s Softwash solution is superior to other cleaning products. It combats not only dirt and salt but mold and mildew, as well. Lamb’s Custom Painting took great care in the cleaning, preparation, and painting of the lighthouse. The crew began by Softwashing to remove the dirt, salt, sand, mold, mildew, etc. from the surface of the building. This creates an ideal surface for preparation and painting. The Softwash solution was transferred to a backpack spraying unit from our Softwash truck to saturate the surface of the building closely and with great precision.

After the building dried, an elevated platform was brought in to reach the paintable high areas. All the metal surfaces were sanded with a rotary metal brush to remove any rust and flaking paint. Those surfaces were then primed with Sherwin Williams (SW) Pro-Cryl gray primer. We then applied two coats of SW Sher-Cryl industrial semi-gloss paint in Tricorn Black SW 6258 to the metal light enclosure and the doors. All window frames were sanded. We used Bondo for wood repair. The Bondo was sanded and shaped. Then we used two coats of SW SuperPaint in semi-gloss to coat all window and door frames. The Stucco surface of the lighthouse was coated with two coats of SW Duration in Shell White flat paint.

While many know us mainly for our success as the Rehoboth Beach painting company, exterior cleaning is also something we specialize in. Lamb’s Custom Painting has been maintaining the lighthouse for several years. This project is an example of the trust our clients have in our quality workmanship.
