The owners of this lovely home in the Rehoboth Beach Yacht and Country Club in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware wanted to breathe life into this outdated stone fireplace. The solution was quite simple. They contacted Lamb’s Custom Painting, as we had already painted the exterior of their home and whitewashed the stone, chimney, and steps.
We used the same whitewashing technique on the interior as we did on the exterior. Firstly, we removed all the decorations on the mantle and hearth. Then we removed the vents from the façade. Lastly, we protected everything around the surface to be painted with plastic sheeting and drop cloths. Whitewash is extremely thin; it is imperative to be aware of it splashing or running onto other surfaces.
Using one part paint to three parts water, we began the application at the top and worked our way down the fireplace. This technique helped to catch any runs, which eliminates streaking. We sprayed the vents with a white paint in a satin finish. The project came out beautifully. The homeowners are extremely pleased with the results.
